What is a USMCA form?
The USMCA form is a document required under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, also called CUSMA in Canada, to claim preferential tariff treatment when shipping goods between the three signatory countries.
If you are importing or exporting goods between the United States, Mexico or Canada you may need to complete the form.
Do you need a USMCA form? Yes, if… (all must apply)
- Your product originates in the United States, Mexico or Canada, and
- Your product meets the rules of origin as defined in the USMCA agreement, and
- You are claiming preferential tariff treatment under the USMCA-CUSMA framework, and
- Your shipment is valued over a certain threshold ( ex., $2500 USD in the US, $3300 CAD in Canada)
Click here to visit the relevant government website for additional guidance on the USMCA and how to complete the form. You can download a blank copy of the form here to complete and provide with your shipment.
If you are shipping the same type of goods frequently to the same location, you can add a blanket period to the form. We can then assist you in filing this with the courier so it can be kept on file. This will help avoid delays and also avoid having to submit a new form every time you ship!
Nerd Tip! Always monitor the progress of your shipment(s) in your ShipNerd dashboard. You will see an exception notice if additional information is required for clearance. Contact ShipNerd support if you need assistance.
