Freight Class & Shipping Codes

TITANIUM CASTINGS

ShipNerd provides discounted shipping rates for shipping titanium castings.

When shipping titanium castings via small package couriers such as UPS or Canpar Express, or LTL providers, be sure to specify any necessary special handling.

Use the quick quote tool to see the best shipping rates for your shipment of Base Metals and Articles of Base Metal.

Remember, package couriers only accept packages weighing up to 150lbs, and up to 165″ in length and girth combined. Shipments of Base Metal on pallets, or over these size and weigh limits will ship via LTL Freight using ShipNerd.

Items primarily made of base metal are often assigned a low freight class and relatively low LTL shipping rates.

NMFC®

National Motor Freight Classification® (US)

For (US) interstate, intrastate or international LTL Freight shipments an NMFC® Freight Class is assigned primarily based on density, (lb. per cubic foot).

Our Quick Quote tool estimates freight class based on size and weight entered and displays a list of carriers, services and rates for pallets of LTL Freight or delivery of parcels, (envelopes, boxes, shipping tubes, etc).

Dimensions

Freight Class may be adjusted up or down depending on type of item shipped, handling requirements, how “stow-able” the cargo is and the liability, (potential for loss, high value, etc).

Rates are lower for lower freight classes, and higher for higher classes. Shipments requiring special handling may be assigned to a higher freight class. Products which are high-values, easily damaged, prone to loss, may damage other freight, or are perishable may be assigned a higher freight class. Products which are large, or irregularly shaped, or un-stackable such as assembled furniture, machines, etc may be assigned a higher freight class.

In general, there are (18) NMFC® Freight Classes ranging from Class 50 to Class 500:
