Freight Class may be adjusted up or down depending on type of item shipped, handling requirements, how “stow-able” the cargo is and the liability, (potential for loss, high value, etc).

Rates are lower for lower freight classes, and higher for higher classes. Shipments requiring special handling may be assigned to a higher freight class. Products which are high-values, easily damaged, prone to loss, may damage other freight, or are perishable may be assigned a higher freight class. Products which are large, or irregularly shaped, or un-stackable such as assembled furniture, machines, etc may be assigned a higher freight class.
